More Or Less Anatomically Correct Jan 28, 2010
By Treybien This replica turtle is very large but not that heavy. At first glance it looks like a real turtle just out of the water (it's shiny). One of the problems I have with it is that there are no built-in hooks or holes to use for hanging it on a vertical surface. I decided not to drill holes into the one I ordered, so I suspended it from a picture hook on the wall with monofilament line tied tightly between the replica's fore flippers. The scales on the top of the head are not right for a green, but the scutes on the anterior part of the shell ARE right (it seems to depict a kind of hawksbill/green hybrid). The mouth is wide open, but there is very little internal detail. The text indicates the replica depicts a female, but the concave plastron makes it more likely that it depicts a male. Most folks will probably not care about any of this except for the problem in hanging it on the wall. I like it now that I have figured out how to hang it without damaging it. If you have a lot of space and are not using it as an exhibit for a herpetology class, this is a pretty nice decoration.
